A Guide in Preparation for your 'Mommy & Me' Mini Session.

Please look through this guide as it contains useful information. I am looking forward to capturing beautiful images for you to look back on.

Welcome Friend! Thank you for booking a Mini Session with me!

I am so excited to begin this journey with you! My passion is to capture beauty in everyday life so that you have memories to treasure forever. Thank you for giving me the honor of capturing these memories for you! In this Client Experience Guide you’ll find everything you’ll need to know about a mini-session with me. I’ve included some helpful tips to hopefully make this process as smooth as possible for you. If there is anything I can do for you along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask! I’m here to serve you the best that I can. I can’t wait for our session together!

Warmly,

Arlin Perez

What to Expect

Before

About a week before your session, I will send you an email with directions for how to get to the location of the studio along with parking options. I will also be providing detailed instructions on how to get up to the studio since it is in an office building. Remaining balance will be due two days before your session. If you have any questions leading up to your session, feel free to reach out!

During

During our time together, you can expect high energy, lots of funny noises, and probably some squeals as I snap photos! I will pose you and tell you what to do with your hands & body, so you won’t have to worry about any of that. I take LOTS of photos to make sure I get the great shots we need, so you’ll hear my shutter snapping pretty rapidly. I also love to capture candid moments in between!

After

You can expect your photos to be sent to you in an online gallery via email about 2 weeks after your session! You’ll be able to select your 10 images you'd like to receive in high resolution, & you'll then be able to purchase additional images if you wish. Then the best part begins - sharing your beautiful images with friends and family!

What to Wear

Dressing yourself in the morning is hard enough when you don’t have to stand in front of a camera and be your best self. Choosing what to wear for a photoshoot can be overwhelming. So, if your nerves start to fizz when you think about what to wear, don’t worry, I will be providing a tulle robe as a complementary to your session: I will have 3 to choose from: Beige, Pink, and Blue. One Robe per booking. The robes available to you are the one pictured below.

Tip:

  • Searching 'Kids tulle dresses' will provide you with outfit options that will go with the Tulle Robes I'm providing.
  • Momma's: If you choose to use one of the tulle robes I will be providing: please arrive with a nude bra & nude underwear. Please do not wear any socks or shoes that will leave marking or stains on your feet. Please refrain from wearing tight jeans that day as they will leave marking on your legs. (I will include this information again on your appointment reminder email).

Don't want to wear the robe?

This is completely fine - you don't have to. Whether you choose to wear the robe or not, I put together a Pinterest board with outfit inspo for you & your little ones. Feel free to check it out by clicking here. I am excited to see what you put together!

What to Wear - Continued

Please ensure that the wardrobe complements you & your loved ones nicely. Whatever your style might be.

Incorporate Texture & Movement

Pick fabrics that move and flow with you. Ones that add a cozy texture, or get picked up by the wind, filter the late afternoon sun, and glow in the morning light. Natural fibers like linen, cotton, or wool are amazing.

Color Scheming

A rule of thumb here is to choose to either complement your natural environment or contrast it. It totally depends on what you’re looking for! For families it’s best to keep your color scheme limited to four colors. You can choose one person to wear a feature color and have everyone else’s outfits complement that. The color wheel is a great reference point when trying to figure out what colors look a bit weird together and what colors are a match made in heaven.

Complementary Color These colors complement each other and create a visual harmony. They’re salt and pepper, Bonnie and Clyde, peanut butter and jelly. Complementary colors sit across from one another on the color wheel (i.e. blue and orange, red and green, yellow and purple). Analogous Colors But it’s not all about contrast. We’re all built so differently and respond to color combinations differently. For those less taken by the ‘pop,’ analogous colors could be the way to go. Analogous colors are next to each other on the color wheel and can be quite soothing to the eye. Think of the jungle and all of the lush variations of green, or the ocean and the infinite hues of blue.

Matching each other

When multiple people wear the same color, sometimes their matching outfits blend together so much that you can’t really see any of them properly. The viewer can’t tell where one person begins and another one ends. Complement the other people in the photograph as well as your surroundings. The idea is to have everything look good together without everything looking the same.

Hair & Makeup

So, this is totally your call! Go all out and use this as an opportunity to get pampered and get your hair & makeup done. It'll be one less thing you have to worry about. I will tell you, getting your hair & makeup done for pictures will make a difference - in a good way :)

Things to consider:

  • Please make sure your hair & makeup is how you want it to be, clear up any smears, noticeable flyways - don't be scared to use hairspray for this. Since these are mini sessions and are more fast paced, I might not be able to get every flyaway, or notice if you didn't blend you're makeup well.
  • When choosing your outfit, be mindful of how it looks on you. For example: You wear a high slit dress but don't want to show much leg - please get it altered to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions. Same with button up shirts or blouses showing too much cleavage - if this is something you are insecure about.
  • You are welcome to bring any props that you'd like to incorporate.
  • If you are coming in for a graduation session, bring your cap & gown - I'll capture images in your outfit to show your personality as well as in your cap & gown to show your accomplishments!
  • Breathe! Be in the moment. This is an experience that not many of us make the time to give ourselves. Thank yourself for that and soak in all the memories you're making.

I can’t wait for our session together! Hopefully you found this information helpful. If you have any questions or concerns leading up to your session, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. My goal is to serve you the best that I can! This is going to be a fun session, so don’t stress. Relax and enjoy making these memories that you’ll get to treasure forever. See you soon!
